Why I Give: Basil Zahed

Born in South Africa and raised there and in Lebanon, Basil Zahed graduated from LAU in 1982 with a degree in business marketing. After working in Greece for five years, Zahed immigrated to Canada. He currently lives in Toronto with his children, Cherine and Adam, and works as an insurance adjuster.

Zahed credits his involvement in LAUs Toronto alumni chapter with providing him an opportunity to bond with other graduates of similar backgrounds. Referring to his experience at LAU, Zahed says he believes investing in education is the best way of laying a sound “foundation for a good future.” He adds that the education he received at LAU opened up doors for him and prepared him for the “dynamics of a diversified culture and business environment.” Understanding the need to provide students with similar opportunities, Zahed continues to give regular contributions to LAU, through which he is helping the university to provide a first-rate education for future generations. “The future of Lebanon and the area is in our kids,” says Zahed. His donations are helping LAU to have its own positive impact on the next generation.
